In my opinion, some of the best homemaking ideas don’t cost anything. You don’t have to buy more candles or the latest viral decor piece making the rounds on IG. (Though ngl this totally gets me too sometimes)
So many times it’s really the tiny things that take five minutes and quietly make your home feel extra comfy.
Two of my faves? Folding bath towels into little animals and stamping your toilet paper after cleaning the bathroom.
I don’t know, maybe they sound stupid, but I think they can be total game changers.
Folding Towel Animals
You’ve probably seen them at hotels or on cruise ships—tiny elephants or swans made from towels. It’s such a small thing, but it adds so much whimsy to the every day drudgery. Especially if you have kiddos in the house!
I mean, if you’re already folding laundry, might as well have some fun right? YouTube has a ton of tutorials if you search “how to fold towel animals.” Start simple with a swan or bunny. It’s faster than it looks, and I included some tutorials below.
A few easy tips:
- Solid-color towels show the shapes better.
- Roll tightly so they hold together.
- Add a bow or a bit of greenery if you want it to look extra special.
When you’re done, set it on the bed before everyone showers at night. It makes the room feel ready for rest. Kids love it, but honestly, so do us grown ups.
Stamped Toilet Paper
Hotels do it all the time and guess what? You can do it at home in seconds. fold the end of the toilet paper into a neat triangle, and after you wash your hands turn the faucet off. Press the end of the toilet paper against a drop of water. It makes a light seal and holds the fold in place.
It’s one of those finishing touches that makes the bathroom feel reset. If you’re cleaning, it’s the perfect last step.
Here’s why I love these
It’s not deep. It’s just so nice! Doing something small and intentional—especially when it’s a little silly—makes the daily drudgery and ho-hum of homemaking just feel a bit more whimsical!
You don’t have to overhaul your home to feel cozy. You can make it better by paying attention to details you’d usually skip!
