“No offense but you don’t give yourself enough credit for creating a home that feels like a warm hug.”
That line hit me—because it’s true, and we often forget to say it. So let’s slow down a minute and recognize something important: the very act of homemaking—of creating a safe, loving space—isn’t small. It’s a quiet strength that shouldn’t be overlooked.
You do deserve more credit. Your efforts to cook nourishing meals, keep a clean and tidy space, decorate so things feel cozy, be that shoulder to lean on for your children and spouse…those efforts transform a house into a refuge—not just for you, but for everyone you love. And in times like these? That matters more than ever.
Why Creating a “Warm Hug Home” Matters More Than You Think
We don’t just live in a house—we live in our homes. The way they feel affects our mental and emotional health more than we often realize.
- Feeling safe and secure in your home has been linked to lower rates of anxiety and depression. American SPCC+1
- A lived, intentional space adds order, peace, and a feeling of control—clutter and chaos can actually tax the brain. Mental Health America
- Homes that feel “good” support emotional well-being—they say to our nervous systems, “You are safe here; you can rest.” Cypress Wellness Center+1
So when you tell yourself “I’m just a mom, or just a homemaker” for building this haven, you’re being humble—but you’re also leaving out the part of your work that matters deeply.

A Few Things You May Need to Hear
1. Don’t Underestimate the Beauty You Create
It’s common to look around and see flaws. But I want you to flip the lens—see what you’ve done. Even small touches—like a candle, a favorite throw, a playlist, soft lighting, dinner on the table, the dishwasher empty, one load of laundry done—help. Don’t try to be “perfect” every day. Just aim to make your space 1% tidier/better.
2. Create Routines That Support You, Not Overwhelm You
Routine is your foundation. When you build small, steady habits, your home cares for you in the background. That’s what my “podcast cleaning routines” are meant to do, they help with the tasks with support.
Here’s how to make routines that stick:
- Start with just one 10- or 15-minute habit (e.g. morning tidy, evening reset)
- Anchor it to something you already do (e.g. “after coffee,” “before bed”)
- Use media (like my podcasts or your fave podcasts and audiobooks of your choice) to make it feel like you are body doubling with someone.
- Give yourself grace: some days you’ll do more; some days less
Because a home that feels restful is one that doesn’t demand perfection.
3. Share the Message — Friends Need It, Too
Remind someone you love that they make this crazy world feel like home. Don’t let your friends forget that they are doing something wonderful in their day to day too!
I hope as you have read this, you’ve felt seen. If you’d like all the tips, routines, and extra ideas I didn’t include here, I made a YouTube video just for that. I’ll embed it below so you can watch right in this post.
