For some of us, “the mess can wait” doesn’t sound comforting. It sounds like drowning.
If you’ve ever stood in your kitchen surrounded by toys, dishes, and laundry and felt like your brain was short-circuiting — this post is for you.
Hi friend, I’m Cheyenne Bulloch, creator of Domestic Daydreams. And I used to feel like I was constantly treading water — overstimulated, comparing myself to everyone else, and losing my patience over piles of clutter that just never seemed to end.
But here’s what I’ve learned:
✨ You’re allowed to want a clean, organized home.
✨ You’re allowed to crave calm.
✨ And it doesn’t make you shallow, controlling, or unrealistic — it makes you human.
Let’s talk about how to find peace in homemaking again… without the burnout.
Cleaning Isn’t About Perfection — It’s About Peace
When my space is clear, I’m clear.
When my home feels calm, I can mother from a calm place.
It’s not about having the perfect Pinterest house — it’s about creating a home that helps you show up as your best self.
Why You Feel So Overwhelmed by the Mess
Here’s the truth no one tells you: the reason it all feels so heavy isn’t just the physical mess — it’s the mental load.
You’re juggling invisible checklists all day:
- Who needs what laundry done.
- Whether the dishwasher’s clean.
- What’s for dinner.
- Which corner hasn’t been vacuumed since the Jurassic period. ;P
That constant mental tracking is exhausting. And it’s why, even when you’re not actively cleaning, you’re still tired.
That’s what inspired me to create my podcast-style cleaning routines — to remove that mental load entirely.
📻 Meet the Domestic Daydreams Audio Cleaning Routine
Imagine waking up, hitting play, and letting someone else (me!) gently walk you through your 30-minute cleaning routine — all while a vintage 1950s Dragnet True Crime Radio episode (Or Father Knows Best if you prefer comedy!) plays in the background.
It’s a cleaning routine re-imagined for the moms with ADHD brains, busy schedules, or just way too much on their plates.
Each morning, you’re guided through:
✅ Airing your beds
✅ One load of laundry (with the day’s exact settings!)
✅ Dishes and sink reset
✅ A quick 5-minute clutter pickup
✅ A 15-minute weekly or zone task
No more guessing what to clean next. No more decision fatigue. No more guilt. You can click here to try some free episodes, OR click here to join my membership and get new episodes 6 days a week! But I’ll spell out the routine below in case you just want to follow along with some written instructions!
My Morning Routine: The 30-Minute Magic
I follow the same five-step routine every weekday morning. It’s simple, rhythmic, and totally doable — even on days when my energy is low.
1. Air the Beds
Instead of rushing to make your bed, air it out!
Pull back the covers, open a window, and let sunlight freshen the sheets. It helps prevent dust mites and gives your room that crisp, clean feeling.
2. One Load of Laundry
Each day has a specific load:
- Monday: Whites & lights
- Tuesday: Delicates
- Wednesday: Activewear
- Thursday: Darks
- Friday: Towels
- Saturday: Sheets
No more piles. No more “catch-up weekends.”
Just one load, done and folded — every day.
3. Dishes & Sink Reset
Unload the dishwasher first thing. Then, every meal, fill one side of your sink (or a tub) with warm soapy water for quick scrapes and rinses. You’ll be shocked how easy dinner cleanup feels when you start here.
4. Clutter Pick Up
Grab a basket, set a timer for five minutes, and run through the house tossing stray items in the basket. As you move from room to room, put things away.
It’s fast, satisfying, and keeps chaos from spreading.
5. Fifteen-Minute Weekly Task
Each weekday focuses on one deeper chore:
- Monday: Zone deep clean
- Tuesday: Bathroom refresh
- Wednesday: Fridge clean + meal plan
- Thursday: Dusting
- Friday: Floors
These micro-routines keep your home spotless without marathon cleaning days!
Optional Evening Routine (for That “Hotel at Home” Feel)
When I need an extra layer of calm before bed, I do my Evening Cleaning Routine — paired with the vintage radio show Suspense!
It’s like a cozy homemaking ritual that resets your space and your nervous system.
In just 30 minutes, I:
- Clear clutter from the day
- Put away laundry
- Load and run the dishwasher
- Spot clean high-traffic floors
- End with a few minutes of self-care (skincare, soft PJs, maybe red light therapy if I’m feeling fancy)

💗 Why It Works for ADHD & Overwhelmed Moms
When I was diagnosed with ADHD, everything clicked.
No wonder routines never stuck — I wasn’t lazy; I was overloaded.
The magic of the audio cleaning system is that it outsources the decision-making.
You just follow the voice, the music, and the flow.
By combining a fun radio show, structure, and gentle accountability, it transforms cleaning from a dreaded task into something I can actually look forward to.
Researchers call this habit stacking — pairing a routine with a pleasurable cue (like a story or song) to make it stick long-term. Studies even show that pairing cleaning with music can boost dopamine and motivation by up to 15%.
