Hoole, and while I don\u2019t long for a total time-travel back to the 1950s, I do try to adapt wisdom and advice from the past to my life. The book describes that an ideal homemaker should be \u201clovely to look at and lovely to be around; she has a wholesome attitude and a pleasing appearance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Now, pause \u2014 I rolled my eyes too at first. But here\u2019s the thing: you don\u2019t have to adopt vintage rules at face value. You adjust them to work for you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">While I don\u2019t vibe with vintage homemaking advice coming from a place of pushing a message of \u201cyou have to be ____.\u201d I still try to take vintage advice and adjust it to my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u203c\ufe0fMy rule of thumb is: I should never do anything in my homemaking to try to \u201cearn\u201d love or approval from my family or society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Instead I\u2019m trying to use my homemaking to nurture and heal myself, and find joy in the day to day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And if you\u2019d like to do that too, here\u2019s my hacks for this &#8220;rule&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DPKk9Ssjiom\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; For a modern mom uniform, I&#8217;ve tested many, but right now, my combo is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Jean dress + apron<\/strong> (yes, there\u2019s an apron revival happening \ud83d\ude09 )<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">In winter: I add fleece-lined tights undernight, fuzzy socks, and a cozy sweater<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">A light daily makeup ritual \u2014 for me, that\u2019s just tinted moisturizer and red lipstick. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Why this works for me<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">It cuts the decision fatigue of deciding \u201cWhat do I wear today?\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">It feels casual but I still feel pretty!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">It honors the idea of \u201cpleasing appearance\u201d in a kind, self-loving way \u2014 not perfection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">It gives me confidence as I go about my day, and I don&#8217;t feel scrubby.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><strong>How to adapt<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Maybe your uniform is active dresses in the summer, or sweaters and jeans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Maybe it\u2019s a capsule wardrobe of neutrals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">The point: a consistent base you feel \u201cyou\u201d in, especially on the messy days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hack #3: Vintage 1950s Radio + Cleaning Routines = cleaning on autopilot.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">One of my absolute favorite hacks: <strong>podcast cleaning routines<\/strong> built around <em>Old Time Radio Shows from the 1950s<\/em>, like <em>Dragnet<\/em>, Fibber McGee and Molly, and Father Knows Best. As a people pleaser, I try so hard not to fall into this trap. And that was a trap vintage advice sometimes leaned into \u2014 the \u201cideal homemaker\u201d must always look perfect or be ever-pleasing. No thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Instead:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\">Use homemaking to <strong>nurture yourself<\/strong>, not to prove yourself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Find joy in the journey of creating a haven for yourself and your family.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\">Build routines that support your mental, emotional, and physical health and that of your family.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This is more than a trend: researchers and thinkers are reframing homemaking not as drudge work, but a <strong>wellness practice<\/strong> in itself.
